The Power of Fasting + Faith

Many people around the world, and some of my own clients are observing Ramadan during this period, so I thought I would share my take on this powerful practice.
-
First of all many cultures across history have recognized the benefits of fasting from the Greeks to Ancient India.
-
Fasting has been shown to have a variety of health benefits from improved insulin sensitivity, increased growth hormone, and decreased inflammation.
-
Something our modern society only rediscovered recently (am I the only one who remembers when everyone was still saying to eat 6 meals a day?)
-
Anyways this is not going to be a post on the physical benefits of fasting- this is going to be a post on the physiological and emotional benefits of fasting.
-
Too often do we fall into patterns of seeking out pleasure from external circumstances. I’m not saying not to enjoy good food and have fun. But I think we can all agree that our happiness and fulfillment should come from some place deeper.
-
Fasting simply puts you back in touch with that, it’s the best reminder of it honestly.
-
To make this effect more potent you can meditate or engage in whatever “prayer” means to you during the fast.
-
Again the ancient cultures recognized how reconnecting to the source of what sustained them beyond food was so powerful while fasting.
-
I’ve been doing intermittent fasting and meditating everyday for 4 years now and it’s been the single greatest hack for my mental strength, period.
-
In fact I’m going to do a 48 hour fast tomorrow, haven’t done one in a min. Watch my story to see if I make it 😳
